Joomla custom fields examples
With the help of custom fields, you can simplify, structure and improve the information on the website. You can also supplement the information on the website with additional data. This can be done for:
- Articles.
- Article category.
- Users.
- Contacts.
- Categories of contacts.
- Contact feedback forms.
- Third-party extensions (if they support). For example, such support is available in Linky Map and My Maps location.
Fields are very good for creating catalogs. For example, household appliances, movies, vacancies and so on. They allow you to standardize the presentation of information and even allow you to filter items (articles) using the filter module. For example, JFilters. And for this there is no need to use third-party extensions such as FLEXIcontent, K2, ZOO, etc.
Two new field types have been added to Joomla 6. In Joomla 6.1, new field types were added (video, audio and documents).
For example, on this Joomla 5 and 4 template demo website the content categories are supplemented with data from the fields (picture below).
And this is what the article page looks like (picture below).
The data in the «Create Egg Carton» is information from the fields. In the admin, in the article settings, it looks like the picture below. Note that design and position of the fields depends on the styles included in the website template.
«Skills That Children Will Learn» section was also created using fields. In the pictures below you can see the section on the website and in the admin panel.
The situation is the same with the «Frequently Questions» section. In the pictures below you can see the section on the website and in the admin panel.
Also, fields will allow you to expand the standard user registration form and the contact form.
In the next article, we will talk about the Banner component built into Joomla.
I hope this and other Joomla video tutorials have helped you with this CMS. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments. In the next video, we'll we will work with Joomla Banners component.
