In previous video tutorials we create responsive company website from scratch with a blog, portfolio and uploaded it to hosting. In this video tutorial we will talk about Joomla module (component Com modules).

Module – is one of the Joomla extensions, which is mainly designed to display something on the website or in the admin. Module can display text, photo, gallery, video, player, form, menu, news list, currency rate, weather, language switch and much more. Modules are located in template positions. There are hundreds of paid and free modules for Joomla. Some modules are built-in in Joomla. By installing many third-party components, you automatically install their modules.

Video tutorial recording date – September 2, 2023. Software from video tutorial – Joomla 4.3.4.

Joomla 5.2 has a new module «Articles», that can replace six existing modules: «Articles – Archived», «Articles – Category», «Articles – Latest», «Articles - Most Read», «Articles – Newsflash», «Articles – Related».

Joomla Modules

There are modules for the front part of the site, the one that visitors see, and for the admin (control panel). For example, the «main» page of the Joomla control panel consists almost entirely of modules (picture below).

The figure below shows an example page (RSCapri template) where, except for the logo and copyright, everything else is displayed by modules.

Basically, modules are displayed in positions. The positions are set by the template. Different templates have a different set of positions. The figure below shows an example of RSCapri 1.0.2 template positions. Some templates allow you to add, remove, move and resize the module position without any programming/CSS skills. One or more modules can be displayed in one template position. In the admin panel, it is possible to change module ordering. Module design in most cases depends on the template.

Modules can be displayed in template positions, in Joomla articles, VirtueMart product descriptions, etc. In Joomla 6.1, modules now have versioning, just like articles.

I hope this and other Joomla video tutorials have helped you with this CMS. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments.

In the next video tutorial, we will look at Joomla templates and styles.
