There are hundreds of paid and free modules for Joomla. Some modules are built-in in Joomla. By installing many third-party components, you automatically install their modules.

Joomla template is an extension that provides website design. All fonts, colors, layout (location of various elements), indents, shadows, gradients, etc. are included in template. There are templates for the Joomla admin (control panel) and for the site (the part that all visitors see).

This «system» is called ACL (Access Control List).
