    Joomla is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) that allows users to create and manage websites. It was first released in 2005 and has since become one of the most popular CMS platforms available, with millions of websites running on it.
    
    One of the key features of Joomla is its flexibility and extensibility. Users can install and customize a wide range of third-party extensions, including templates, modules, plugins, and components, to add new functionalities and customize the look and feel of their websites.

    Joomla 5.0 CMS is a version of the Joomla content management system, which was released on October 17, 2023. It has a number of updates to improve security, accessibility, speed and other «areas». Most of the changes are code related.
    
    In the previous [free video tutorials](https://aleksius.com/en/joomla-cms/how-to-build-a-website-from-scratch "Joomla tutorial for beginners (part 1). How to build a website from scratch"), we created website on Joomla 4 from scratch. We used only free components. The result was a business website, which was uploaded to the hosting.
    
    **The previously recorded video tutorials for Joomla 4 are almost completely relevant for the current version of Joomla 5.0.** At least this is valid on November 03, 2023.
    
    In this article, we will talk about the «biggest» changes in Joomla 5.0 compared to version 4.3.

    Joomla 5.1 – is the version of the Joomla content management system that was released on April 16, 2024. It added new features, improved code security, and speed. Most of the changes concern the code and are not visible in the admin or in the front part of the website. A total of 247 different changes (new features, fixes, updates, etc.) were made to Joomla 5.1. Of them, 69 are new features.

    The CMS Joomla 5.2 is a version of the Joomla content management system released on October 14, 2024. It introduced a new article module, tools for modifying [email templates](https://aleksius.com/en/joomla-cms/joomla-mail-templates "Joomla Mail Templates tutorial"), and the ability to display the main menu items in different languages within a single menu (for multilingual websites). Additionally, the router was improved to reduce URL duplicates, PHP 8.4 support was implemented, and many other enhancements were made.

Changes have been made to the router to reduce duplicates, a new «files» folder has been added, and compatibility with PHP 8.4 has been improved.
